ABOUT US

WHO

WE ARE

At Violence Free Iowa, we believe sexual and domestic violence are preventable public health issues and that all Iowans deserve a life free from violence. We work alongside a statewide network of victim service provider agencies, connect survivors to the help and services they need, and advocate for policy and community change that makes Iowa safer for everyone.

Our Vision

Communities that thrive free from violence.

Our Mission

To lead and support a statewide movement addressing sexual and domestic violence through community and system transformation, training, and public policy change.

OUR PRIMARY FOCUS AREAS

  • Training and technical assistance for victim service providers and advocates.

  • Resources and support to help organizations enhance their programs.

  • Statewide clearinghouse for anti-gender-based violence information, resources, and subject matter expertise.

  • Capacity building for sexual assault and domestic violence prevention efforts.

  • Public policy and victim services funding advocacy.

  • Connecting communities, services, policymakers, and systems.

  • Legal services for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors and their families.

  • Expert witness testimony (as capacity allows).

Our long-term goal is to end the threat of sexual and domestic violence for everyone in our state. Feeling physically, mentally, and emotionally safe are basic human rights that every person and child deserves. When anyone in the community experiences violence, it affects the collective health of the entire population.

We take a survivor-centered approach to sexual and assault and domestic violence victim services and believe that community-based agencies and interventions, healthcare, schools, and governments should work together to listen and respond to the experiences of those impacted by violence in our communities.

By doing so, we can all enhance the safety for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors and their families so everyone has the ability to be safe, heal, and thrive.
